Supporting Plymouth’s Fishing Industry: Seafood Plymouth’s Brand Launch Film

This summer, we’ve been excited to support the launch of Seafood Plymouth, a new consumer-facing brand developed by the Plymouth Fishing & Seafood Association. The aim is to increase awareness and demand for locally caught and landed species, ultimately boosting the local fishing industry. With the call to action, “Choose Local, Go Wild,” the campaign encourages consumers to support Plymouth’s fishing fleet and seafood businesses.

Our involvement in this project feels particularly timely, following the closure of the Plymouth Fish Market, which has had a significant economic impact. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to highlight the value of Plymouth’s fishing industry and the benefits of choosing local, sustainable seafood.

To showcase the heart of this industry, we documented the journey of Plymouth’s catch from sea to plate. Our ‘day in the life’ approach featured the hardworking fishers at sea and the local businesses that bring fresh seafood to market. Along the way, we met many dedicated people who contribute to this industry, helping connect consumers with their local food source.

The project was a lot of fun to work on, involving boat trips and opportunities to sample the delicious meals featured in the video! It was a rewarding experience that gave us a greater appreciation for the people who make Plymouth’s seafood industry thrive, including those in the local fishing fleet through to the onshore merchants, retailers and food outlets.

There are numerous places in Plymouth where you can support the environment and the local economy by purchasing locally caught fish (we filmed at The Market Plaice and RG Seafoods) or by dining out on local catch (Ocean View and Suphas feature in the film). So, the next time you’re out for a meal or doing your weekly shop, remember to ‘choose local, go wild’ and support Plymouth’s fishing industry!
