Crossing Lives Project Launch

Crossing Lives: New Project Documents Tamar Bridge Toll Booth Workers
14 February, 2025
Fotonow CIC has begun a new project Crossing Lives with support from Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grant programme. Running from January to July 2025, this social history and photography initiative will document and celebrate the stories of toll booth workers who have been essential to the Tamar Bridge’s operations since 1961.
Working in close partnership with the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre, our team will capture portraits and oral histories from current and former toll booth workers. Crossing Lives will culminate in a large-scale public exhibition along the bridge’s pedestrian walkway from June 2025, preserving these valuable community histories for future generations.
Community involvement is central to this project. We’ll be organising photography workshops, conducting oral history sessions, and engaging with local groups to bring these stories to life. If you have a connection to the Tamar Bridge toll booths or would like to get involved, we’d welcome hearing from you.
