Belong in Plymouth Youth Documentary Project

16th August, 2024

Fotonow is excited to receive a commission from Belong in Plymouth, on a new project: a youth-led documentary exploring life for young people in the city. The film will be coproduced with a group of 13 young people who are working with Belong in Plymouth, and is based around the research this group has conducted with their peers and wider communities.

The project began in early July and the group has been working alongside Fotonow to define the documentary’s vision, style, and desired impact. By the end of August, they will start filming, with editing due to be completed by the autumn.

In addition to the documentary film, the young people were keen to engage in weekly skills sessions covering related areas such as cinematography and camera operation, interview techniques, audio equipment, photography, and promotion. This hands-on training with the Fotonow team aims to support them in developing knowledge and experience useful for them in the future.

The project is planned to culminate in October with a screening and celebration event! The young filmmakers are then keen to present their documentary and share their research insights with local stakeholders and decision-makers in sense-making workshops, with the objective of initiating positive change.

Fotonow, Belong in Plymouth, and the young people involved all believe that this documentary project will create a platform for young voices to be heard.

Stay tuned for updates!
